National CROWN Day is a special holiday commemorating the inaugural signing of the first CROWN Act legislation in California on July 3, 2019, to βCreate a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair.β
National CROWN Day, also known as Black Hair Independence Day, returned for the third year kicking off on June 26th during the 2022 BET Awards weekend and continued the countdown daily to the Essence Festival weekend in NOLA, leading up to the star-studded CROWN Awards ceremony that took place on July 3rd!

This conversation was about everything CROWN, from the premises of The CROWN Act and its current status nationally to the celebration of CROWN Day and its true meaning.

June 29: Hair Discrimination in the Workplace
This conversation tackled hair discrimination and grooming policies in the workplace and how particular workplace policies arenβt beneficial to Black natural hair, and the state of Black hair embedded in our society.

July 1: Conversation with CROWN Mural Artist
This conversation was about the mural reveal in New Orleans and the correlation of CROWN in all art forms, and The CROWN Actβs impact on the people of New Orleans and Louisiana.

July 1: CROWN Mural Reveal
In partnership with the New Orleans Mayorβs office and the Arts Council New Orleans, Dove, and the JOY Collective revealed a commissioned a custom mural inspired by the CROWN movement by a local artist, Journey Allen.

Empowering the Next Generation with the CROWN Movement
A panel discussion during Essence Festival at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center featured Tabitha Brown, Esi Eggleston Bracey, and Dre Brown.

We honored Black women and girls who have impacted community, entertainment, and the advancement of Black beauty.

July 3: The Black Hair Experience
We were in LA, Austin, and Atlanta for an interactive block party experience celebrating the diversity and beauty of Black hair in celebration of CROWN Day.

July 5: CROWN Swim Clinic
In partnership with Tankproof, Dove sponsored a swim clinic event for young Black boys and girls located in Louisiana to advance access and equity through swimming.
The 2nd Annual CROWN Awards was the signature event of the weekend!
In 2022, the star-studded event took place LIVE in New Orleans, honoring Black womenβ―paving the way with contributions to culture, community, entrepreneurship, entertainment, and the advancement of Black beauty.
